“Ideas are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you will reach your destiny.” ~Carl Schurz, address, Faneuil Hall, Boston, 1859
I find that sometimes you have to say something out loud, and often enough, in order to believe it…so there, I’ve said it – It absolutely does NOT have to be PERFECT. Part of what has held me back from pursuing this venture is just that, the fear that I won’t get it right the first time.
I became consumed with the vision of what I wanted to be, but not knowing the steps to get there was literally paralyzing me from moving forward. My idea of perfection was so skewed that my end goal was virtually unattainable.
I began to think back to jobs I’ve had in the past and it dawned on me that I had made mistakes but I did overcome them and in almost every case I had been promoted in spite of those mistakes. Let’s not kid ourselves, it also has taken multiple interventions by friends for me to come to this conclusion, I’m a hard headed and sometimes slow learner.
Whoa…I think I did it ~ the recognition that there will be bumps along the way and that it will be okay IS the first step. So what’s the next step?
